How to Schedule Posts on X (Twitter)

By the Twitxdown Team Updated June 16, 2026 5 min read

Consistency is what grows an account on X — and you don't have to be glued to the app to stay consistent. X has a free, built-in scheduler, and there are stronger third-party tools when you need threads, bulk posting, or multiple accounts. Here's how to use each, and when to reach for which.

Method 1: X's free built-in scheduler (web)

The official scheduler lives in the compose box on the X website and costs nothing:

  1. On x.com, click Post to open the compose box.
  2. Write your post and add any media.
  3. Click the schedule icon (the calendar/clock) at the bottom of the box.
  4. Choose the date and time, then click Confirm.
  5. Click Schedule to finalize. It will now post automatically at that time.

Managing your scheduled posts

To review, edit, reschedule, or delete what's queued, open the compose box and click the schedule icon, then choose Scheduled posts (you'll also find them alongside your drafts as "unsent posts"). Open any post to change its text, media, or send time.

What the native scheduler can't do

  • No threads — single standalone posts only.
  • No replies or polls.
  • Long-form (Premium) posts can't be scheduled natively.
  • It generally needs a verified phone number on your account.
  • It's built for the web; the mobile apps have been inconsistent about showing it.

Method 2: X Pro (formerly TweetDeck)

X Pro is X's power-user dashboard with customizable columns and scheduling built in. It replaced the old free TweetDeck and is now part of an X Premium subscription. If you already pay for Premium and want to monitor multiple feeds while you schedule, it's a natural fit.

Method 3: Third-party schedulers

When you outgrow the native tool — especially for threads, bulk queues, several accounts, or best-time analytics — a dedicated scheduler helps. Popular options include:

These connect to your account via the official API, so stick to reputable names and avoid sketchy "auto-tweet" bots that can get your account flagged.

Scheduling on your phone

Because native scheduling is web-first, the most reliable way to schedule from a phone is to open x.com in your mobile browser and use the compose box exactly as on desktop — or install a third-party scheduling app that supports X.

Schedule smart, don't schedule and ghost

Scheduling keeps your feed alive, but X still rewards real-time presence. Queue your evergreen posts in advance, then show up live to reply and join conversations — that combination beats a wall of automated posts. For the full picture, see our guide to marketing on X.

Frequently asked questions

Is scheduling posts on X free?

Yes. X's built-in scheduler on the website is completely free. X Pro (formerly TweetDeck) and third-party tools like Buffer or Typefully may charge, but you don't need them for basic scheduling.

Can I schedule posts from the X mobile app?

Native scheduling is reliably available on the X website, and the mobile apps have been inconsistent about offering it. The sure method on a phone is to open x.com in your browser, or use a third-party scheduling app.

Can I schedule threads, replies, or polls?

Not with the native scheduler — it handles single standalone posts only. To schedule threads, replies, or polls, use a third-party tool such as Buffer, Typefully, or Hypefury.

How far in advance can I schedule a post?

The native scheduler lets you set a date and time up to roughly 18 months ahead.

Why can't I see the schedule button?

Native scheduling generally requires a verified phone number on your account and works most reliably on the web. Add a phone number in settings and compose from x.com if the option is missing.
