Twitxdown is a free, browser-based tool for saving videos, GIFs, and images from X (formerly Twitter). There's nothing to install and no account to create — paste a link to a public post and download the media in a couple of seconds. This page explains who we are, how the tool actually works, and the principles we hold ourselves to.
We built Twitxdown to make saving public X media genuinely simple — without the pop-ups, fake download buttons, watermarks, and sign-up walls that plague most downloaders. Our goal is a tool that's fast, honest about how it works, and respectful of both users and the creators whose content is shared on X.

When you paste a link, Twitxdown reads the public post and finds the media attached to it. X stores every uploaded video in a few fixed resolutions (typically 360p, 720p, and sometimes 1080p) and keeps a full-size original of each photo. We simply surface those existing files so you can save the exact version you want.
Videos on X keep their picture and audio as separate streams, so we recombine them into a single MP4 that plays with sound anywhere. The short clips X labels as "GIFs" are actually silent MP4s, so they save as .mp4 rather than .gif. Photos come back at their original resolution instead of the compressed preview shown in the timeline.
The transfer happens between X's servers and your device. We don't re-encode your files, add watermarks, or keep copies — once your download finishes, nothing about it remains on our side.
Twitxdown is an independent tool. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to X Corp. or Twitter, and we don't host any media on our servers. Every video, GIF, and image belongs to its original creator, and the tool only works with content from public posts.
